The NBL Christmas Classic is always one of the biggest and best races of the season. Thousands of riders from all over the world travel to Columbus, Ohio to compete in this legendary BMX event. THE TRACK The Christmas Classic always boasts the best indoor track in BMX. Over four-hundred truckloads of dirt are hauled into the Greater Columbus Convention Center and then sculpted into a BMX masterpiece. The track features huge banked turns, dozens of jumps, and an extremely difficult pro-only section that separates the men from the boys. PRO ACTION 1-800-COLLECT's Robbie Miranda had no trouble taming the track and qualified for the AA Pro finals. The top eight riders qualify for the AA Pro finals and race in three mains to determine the overall winner. Riders receive points for the position that they finish in each of the three mains. Robbie finished 4th in main #1 and then 2nd in main #2, so he had six points going into the third and final main. This gave Robbie the lead, but there were two riders tied with seven points and another rider had eight. Main #3 was the most important because it acted as the tie-breaker. THE WIN Robbie got a good start in main #3, but it was not good enough. He was in 4th place and was unfortunately behind the three guys that he needed to beat. Robbie stayed calm, found a place to make his move, and passed two riders in the second turn. Now Robbie was in 2nd place, but he needed to take the lead in order to win the event. Robbie took the next set of jumps perfectly and began to gain ground on the leader. He railed around the last turn and used this momentum to pull along side the leader. It was a one on one battle for the win. Robbie flawlessly pumped each jump, surged ahead, and moved into the top spot. He had taken the lead just a few dozen feet before the finish-line. 1-800-COLLECT's Robbie Miranda had won the NBL Christmas Classic. This was the biggest win in Robbie's pro career. |
